What are Traineeships?

Traineeships are education and training programmes including work experience, which focus on giving a young person the skills and experience to improve employability prospects.
Often as an employer, it is often not deemed cost or time effective, to employ staff without experience.  This programme gives a young person the opportunity to gain qualifications and some experience within the work place setting, prior to being considered for an Apprenticeship, or permanent position.

Traineeships prepare young people for their future careers by helping them to become ‘work ready’.

A traineeship usually consists of the following training:

  • Work preparation training which ensures young people have the skills and confidence needed for an Apprenticeship or other job.
  • Maths and English support to improve young people’s literary and numeracy.
  • Meaningful work experience which provides insight and experience of the world of work.

Creative Sport & Leisure predominantly offer Traineeships in the following areas:

  • Exercise & Fitness

Why are Traineeships important?

Traineeships have been developed in response to business needs, Traineeships ensure employers have the talented workforce required for business success.

A Traineeship can help a young person gain the essential work preparation training, maths and English and work experience needed to get an Apprenticeship or other job when they leave school.

Work preparation training and work experience will put a young person in a better position to compete for an Apprenticeship or other job:

At the end of the work experience placement your child will get a reference and an exit interview – or a job interview if a role becomes available – with the company

Traineeships will last anything from six weeks to a maximum of six months with the content tailored to the needs of the individual and the employer, including work preparation training which ensures young people are ready and have confidence to take the first step in their career, such as an Apprenticeship.

Who are Traineeships for?

Traineeships are an ideal opportunity for young people who are motivated to get a job but who lack the skills and experience that employers are looking for.

Young people who have been applying unsuccessfully for Apprenticeship vacancies due to a lack of skills or experience can be good candidates for a Traineeship.

Suitable for a Traineeship:

  • Aged 16-24 and qualified below level 3.
  • Not currently in a job.
  • Have little work experience.
  • Focused on work or the prospect of it.
