Programme overview

This Traineeship offers the training required to become a fully qualified Make-Up Artist.

Your work experience will take place with partnered salons, spa’s or industry employers, enabling you to build up the skills and expertise to hit the ground running straight after your traineeship.

  • You will start off by doing a week on employability and business. This week will show you how to develop a new website for your makeup business, build a marketing and social media platform to promote your services and show case your portfolio of work.
  • You’ll then reach the main element of your learning by undertaking The Level 2 Certificate in Cosmetic Make-Up and Beauty Consultancy. This qualification has been specifically designed to develop your practical make-up skills for industry.
  • You will learn how to apply make-up for different occasions and situations.
  • You will study skins types and face shapes, plus eyebrow and eyelash treatments.
  • Health and safety and professional practices will support your practical knowledge to give you a complete understanding of the make-up industry.

Programme Length

This is a 10 week programme, starting May 2018.

Who is this Traineeship for?

This programme is well suited for anyone aged 16 to 24 with no Level 3 Qualifications (A Level or equivalent), and an interest in working in the beauty industry.
You will recieve free training and qualifications, as well as completing 100 hours of work experience to prepare you for work within beauty and build up your CV.

What could this qualification lead to?

Progression from this programme could include a Level 3 qualification within Make Up Artistry, as well as progression onto other, more specific beauty therapies.

Career Prospects

This qualification will prepare you for employment as a make-up artist. You will also be eligible to join a professional association and gain insurance as a make-up artist.

Career opportunities as a make-up artist exist in a variety of contexts, including:

  • Working in commercial beauty salons
  • Working in a retail concession in a department store
  • Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements, however enthusiasm for Make Up Artistry and working in the industry is vital. In order to be eligible for Government funding, you must be between the ages of 16 and 24 and have no qualifications higher than GCSE or equivalent.
Please be aware there may be bursary and child care support for certain students who meet the Government household requirements to help support whilst you attend one our courses.
