Street Games

StreetGames and Creative Sport & Leisure are working together to offer traineeships within sport for young people aged between 16 and 24, with an intention that following a successful start with this cohort we will be in a position to deliver the programme on a larger scale across our network.

CSL are thrilled to be working on this project starting in February 2016. Due to increased demand, StreetGames and CSL will be operating out of four locations, including: Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Milton Keynes. Trainees from across the pilot areas will be enrolling on 20 week programmes to work towards a Level 1 qualification whilst accessing support and guidance from an experienced StreetGames mentor along the way.

The course for the learners will include:

•   A varied work programme in line with expectations and experiences of other members of staff in the organisation.

•   Agreeing a learning programme and maintaining learning records.

•   Supporting the delivery of the skills required to deliver Doorstep Sport sessions.

•   Accessing support and mentoring from an experienced mentor, who will help to identify and improve their skills, knowledge and experience in Doorstep Sport.

•   Gaining a Level 1 qualification to aid their chances of employability beyond the placement.

Attending a 3 day residential in February alongside the other trainees on the programme.

The StreetGames charity was first established by a small group of organisers of neighbourhood sports projects. In 2005 they came together to make sport more widely available for disadvantaged young people and to maximise the power of sport to change young lives. StreetGames promotes Doorstep Sport – offering multi-sport activities taking place across communities for young people to take part without having to travel to their nearest leisure centres.
